A soldier goes to war to prove his worth. His love, an empress, waits for his return. Time passes. Stories of the soldier’s death are greatly exaggerated by a jealous third party. The empress kills herself rather than marry someone else, or maybe the grief kills her. Either way she’s dead. The soldier comes home the next day. The timing never works out.
