The Founding of Mexico City

“Leave Aztlán and find a new home; I’ll guide you.” He promised, but got distracted, left them in the care of his careless sister. What a mess. Sister wasn’t happy to give them back, sent her kid after them and the big guy had to kill him. His own nephew. He tossed the kid’s heart in a lake because why not, then figured it was as good a guidepost as any. “Find the heart and build your new home over it.” He realized a sunken heart might be a bit hard to find, so he said to look for an eagle sitting on a cactus. (The snake in the beak bit got added to the story later.) Anyway, they found the island on the middle of the lake, set up shop, prospered. The big guy was pleased. He renamed the Aztecs to Mexica—a new name for a new home—and so Mexico was founded.
